i was a court room artist in a mock trial. it's pretty hard work, especially with everyone moving around while speaking and stuff like that.

Not too sure but I think it's some kind of legal reason, I don't think you're allowed to take pictures or film any court sessions - only drawing.

cause a picture would be too real. They want a drawing to interpret justice cause justice is fake.

No cameras are allowed in courtrooms unless the judge allows it I believe, but it's pretty rare for a camera to be allowed in unless it's a big (usually celebrity) trial. apperantly, it could jeopardize the rights of citizens to receive a fair trial if cameras are allowed.

I think it started many years ago either before cameras were invented or when cameras were really big and noisy and it would have been distracting to have somebody standing up and setting off big flashbulbs.

Now cameras are small and quiet, but the courtroom drawings are like a tradition, I guess.

i thought it was to protect the jury since regular cameras are not allowed in the courtroom. TV cams are allowed depending on the particular judge but I could be wrong.

yeah, I heard about protecting the members of the jury and people in the courtroom who may or may not want to have their identity publicly known. The artists only depict the main characters.

What I want to know is...since phones always have cameras these days, do they just not allow anybody to bring phones into the courtroom anymore? I mean, obv. you can't be chatting it up while they're trying to work, but some people need their phones on them for whatever reason.
