Jeremy Irons fears the coming English ban on smoking in public places will change some of his life-long habits, including staying at posh London hotel The Savoy. The star says he will have to give up some of his favorite hobbies when the national ban comes into force this July.
He says, “I think the character of places across London will be changed by the ban. I went to the Savoy recently only to find that I couldn’t smoke, so I won’t be staying there again. Smokers will go to different places.”
And Irons believes he won’t die from his nicotine addiction. He adds, “Personally, I am unconvinced that smoking kills you. I think genetics takes a more important role.”

I WOULD say that if I were stoned.
Is there more to this quotation, or was it in response to an actual question...? Because standing alone, it doesn't make a lot of sense.
Then again, 90% of emphysema cases are preventable because they're caused by smoking. Same with lung cancer, it's one of the most PREVENTABLE cancers but it's the most detrimental (sp?) with a 7% 5 year survival rate.
Sorry to rant. I was woken up by someone pounding on the door going "MAINTENANCE".
i freaking love genetics. bio majorrrr. :)
I love genetics, too! I learned that in my genetics class in high school and learned again in Pharm school.
Since cigarettes are even more addictive than heroin, I do understand how difficult it is to quit...My suggestion to anyone who has been unable or unwilling to quit, would be to visit their local hospital's oncology patients, or a cancer hospice...If that doesn't scare a smoker, I'm not sure anything else will.
Certainly much faster at any rate.
