15 “HOLY SHIT!” Movie Moments: The Scenes That Make You Say “Ohhhh Shit!” Everytime

Here are ten of my favorite “Oh Shit!!” movie moments. I’m talking about the scenes that make you cringe, make you jump, make you say “HOLY SHIT!” the first time you’ve ever seen it, and continue to make you say “HOLY SHIT!” upon repeated viewings. The scenes that are unexpected, out-of-nowhere, and stick with you. I tried to stay away from torture-porn and shocking horror-type movies for this one. Blah, blah, blah. Shut up Stephen and show me the fucking clips. To make up for my wordiness, I had so much fun putting this one together I’m going to give you fifteen instead of the usual ten…

15. An “OH SHIT!” Threesome
The Departed

The last ten minutes of this movie is one huge “HOLY SHIT” moment. If you haven’t seen it yet, you DO NOT want to watch this clip.

14. Always look both ways
Meet Joe Black

13. Stuck in the Middle With You
Reservoir Dogs

12. Hip to be Square
American Psycho

11. Final Scene

You get two for one here. “Ohhh shit” when you find out what’s in the box and “OH SHIT!” when Brad Pitt makes his decision of what to do about it.

10. “Is this your pen?”

9. The first “chest-burster”

Remember the first time you saw this scene? It’s alot like seeing titties. It’s always awesome, but the first time you’re thinking, “Oh shit, I can’t believe I’m seeing this!

8. “Now go home and get your fucking shinebox.”

7. Suicide
Full Metal Jacket

6. Spider Girl

5. “I shot Marvin in the face”
Pulp Fiction

4 1/2. Pulp Fiction 2 for 1: “That was trippy”
Pulp Fiction

4. Chainsaw

I can literally remember exactly where I was the first time I saw this. I was way to young to be watching it and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

3. Hobbling

2. Hammer
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)

1. Curb Stomp
American History X

Jeezus, this is without a doubt the most cringe-worthy, painful and brutal scene ever put to film.

hiii'usual suspects'
incinerate_ 7th-Apr-2007 10:57 pm (UTC)
iawtc. none of the ones up here made me go 'oh shit' but usual suspects totally did.
stellar_ball 8th-Apr-2007 12:10 am (UTC)
I agree. These seem to be more violent or 'kinda/sorta jump in your seat' kind of moments. I like the ones more where you're sitting there going, 'I never would of thought...' And Usual Suspects is such a great example.

asleeper 7th-Apr-2007 10:36 pm (UTC)
I couldn't sleep for a week. Years later, that moment will just pop back into my head and I feel like crying. So bad.

melwat 8th-Apr-2007 03:33 am (UTC)
my husband warned me about it and i refused to look. i got as far as the guy biting the curb and i covered my ears and closed my eyes. it's the only time i've ever done that for a movie. i can only imagine.
_ballerinagirl 8th-Apr-2007 04:16 am (UTC)
lol I actually saw this clip when I first saw the movie but when I thought I could stomach it again right now...I was mistaken. I totally covered my eyes and sucked my stomach in and held my teeth! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCH.
rapthisham 7th-Apr-2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
as pathetic as it seems, I haven't seen any of these movies.
rapthisham 7th-Apr-2007 10:00 pm (UTC)

but still!
xopiateslavex 7th-Apr-2007 10:46 pm (UTC)
Holy crap, you need to get to Blockbuster.
(Second Alien movie was better, though...SPACE MARINES!!!!)
tube_fiend Lucky.7th-Apr-2007 10:51 pm (UTC)
I honestly think I would be a much happier person had I never seen the vast majority of these.

The American History X scene still pops into my head randomly from time to time, and ruins the rest of my day. Seriously. Disturbing.
truthofthewords Re: Lucky.7th-Apr-2007 10:57 pm (UTC)
I haven't seen it. Maybe I shouldn't press play...
but I'm just so curious!
wtf_garfunkle Re: Lucky.7th-Apr-2007 11:11 pm (UTC)
Someone, tell me what happens...

Lol. I'm so lame. I'm too scared to watch it, but I want to know what happens sooo badly.
sparta 7th-Apr-2007 11:09 pm (UTC)

dude... get off your ass!

I just saw the departed recently and it blew me away. I LOVED it.
Seven is also a favourite of mine.

I don't recommend American History X though. DO NOT watch the clip either.
msroland 8th-Apr-2007 01:27 am (UTC)
Seriously? Well, i've seen a few of these so don't feel too bad.
wreckmex 8th-Apr-2007 04:20 am (UTC)
i've never seen any of these either so...

i always wantedto see scarface but i guess i never got around to it?
i'm not much of a movie person
sacha 8th-Apr-2007 04:51 am (UTC)

fadedwinter 8th-Apr-2007 05:26 am (UTC)

including the usual suspects. it should be up there.
littlekoneko 8th-Apr-2007 07:30 am (UTC)
I've only seen 3 and they're hardly the scariest moments. ;)
ginnipher 8th-Apr-2007 12:41 pm (UTC)
I haven't seen any of them either. :S
buttercup31 7th-Apr-2007 10:00 pm (UTC)
The suicide from Full Metal Jacket, the hobbling in Misery and the curb stomp in American History X fucked me up the most of any of these when I first saw them.
courtney_77 8th-Apr-2007 12:57 am (UTC)
No question.
fatalle424 8th-Apr-2007 01:53 am (UTC)
The hobbling makes me wanna fucking hurl so bad. I hate that you can actually see his foot flop around when she hits him on the left side. UGHHH. :((((((
buttercup31 8th-Apr-2007 03:37 pm (UTC)
Euuuuuuuugh! Why did you describe it!?!?!?! Now I'm going to be twitch for the next hour! Stupid scene. I don't feel right for days after watching it.
_xxtom 7th-Apr-2007 10:01 pm (UTC)
The American History X Curb Stomp one ALWAYS gives me chills.
boomstick 7th-Apr-2007 10:18 pm (UTC)
I do what I can :)
coconutoil 8th-Apr-2007 12:09 am (UTC)
I agree with this comment.
A lot.
Great post.
courtney_77 8th-Apr-2007 12:58 am (UTC)
FERGUSON! I don't think I spelled his glorious name correctly, but here it is, SNICK night remembered.
_angellily_ 7th-Apr-2007 10:02 pm (UTC)
Meet Joe Black....really?? I didn't think it was that shocking!!
demented_21 7th-Apr-2007 10:35 pm (UTC)
It made me lol so hard when I first watched it. And it totally wasn't shocking, we all knew Brad Pitt was playing Death so he had to, well, die in order for the movie to get going.
macaroni1213 8th-Apr-2007 02:00 am (UTC)
Haha I thought it was shocking, but as soon as it happened I started dying of laughter. My friend, who had already seen the movie before, was apalled that I was laughing. She definitely had the "OH SHIT" reaction when she first saw it.
pastfrogg 8th-Apr-2007 02:54 am (UTC)
yeah I laughed my ass off from the second it happened XD aaaand I rewinded it at least 15 times so I could laugh some more. It's the precise moment that he bounces off the car = fucking hysterical.
melwat 8th-Apr-2007 03:33 am (UTC)
i had an "oh shit" reaction and THEN started laughing.
peachykeen1 7th-Apr-2007 10:03 pm (UTC)
omg number 1 the curb stomp did so make me go holy shit!
keepyourguns 7th-Apr-2007 10:03 pm (UTC)
I've seen Full Metal Jacket but I don't remember the suicide.

American History X and Goodfellas are great.
koalafrog 8th-Apr-2007 12:57 am (UTC)
I've seen Full Metal Jacket but I don't remember the suicide.

Are you serious? That's what the entire first half of the movie was building up to. It's possibly the most iconic scene from the film.
keepyourguns 8th-Apr-2007 01:00 am (UTC)
i saw it probably 4 years ago... i dont remember :-
keepyourguns 7th-Apr-2007 10:04 pm (UTC)
i love "i shot marvin in the face"..
cracker_brat 7th-Apr-2007 11:06 pm (UTC)
Isn't it the most twisted LOL moment?
keepyourguns 7th-Apr-2007 11:07 pm (UTC)
shotgun_sitter 8th-Apr-2007 12:00 am (UTC)
i love your icon.
plc4miehaed 7th-Apr-2007 10:04 pm (UTC)
I closed my eyes during the Curb Stomp in American History X. I heard about it before I saw it and decided that I'd rather NOT see that part.

but omg y to The Departed. I literally said, "HOLY SHIT" when I saw it in theaters ahaha.
rebel_waltz 7th-Apr-2007 10:11 pm (UTC)
don't ever see it, it'll ruin your life.
dreamsind1g1tal 7th-Apr-2007 11:12 pm (UTC)
I heard about it before I saw the movie, too, and I was definitely expecting it to be waaaaay worse than it was. I mean, it's still fucked up, but you don't see very much.
boku_no_hanabi 8th-Apr-2007 01:41 am (UTC)
Yeah. I just saw the curb scene and I'm glad it wasn't as graphic as I had imagined.

The Departed's ending was amazing. Though we all cried a little cause Leo dies. Fucking good ending.
you_hermit_crab 8th-Apr-2007 03:19 am (UTC)
I've seen that movie so many times, but I still can't bring myself to watch the curb stomp.
liketoachaos 8th-Apr-2007 06:45 am (UTC)
I immediately teared up when Costigan got shot. He's really the only character who engaged me, and the only one I never doubted.
vanillabean 9th-Apr-2007 03:56 am (UTC)
It grosses me out just thinking about it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wussed out.:D
piinkenvy 22nd-Apr-2007 05:36 pm (UTC)
I did the same thing the first time I saw it...and no matter how many times I watch it I still can't watch it or listen to it. I don't even know if they make a sound or if they show anything because I've really never watched that part haha. It makes me cringe to even think about it.
up_your_ali 7th-Apr-2007 10:04 pm (UTC)
Omg the bite-the-curb scene from American History X still haunts me. :(
halia_g 7th-Apr-2007 10:26 pm (UTC)
Me too! I wasn't that old when I watched it so I'm not sure if thats why. I absoloutley loved the whole film but never got round to watching it again just because of that scene, I think maybe I'm ready to watch it again and just run and hide at that part lol.
illiadria 7th-Apr-2007 11:33 pm (UTC)
I think I had the worst possible scenario to see it. We needed something to distract us from 9/11 coverage and friend brings over THAT. I left after the curb scene and hid in the computer room reading CNN.
bunny_lita 7th-Apr-2007 10:05 pm (UTC)
I haven't seen any of these movies, but I've heard about most of these scenes. Damn you I Love the 80s/90s!
