Newsflash: Carrie Underwood is a cold-hearted, horrible beotch! ;)

My friend works as a DJ at a country radio station. She recently told me the following story about her encounter with Carrie Underwood. Names and identifying details have been removed to protect the innocent, but it has not been edited otherwise! That means no bitching about spelling, punctuation, etc.. ;) My friend is one of the nicest people I've ever known. So I feel bad that she had such a letdown. :(

"Yeah, just real arrogant and like she couldn't be bothered talking to anyone. And the part that most pissed me off was that it was at a convention for the St. Jude Children's Hospital... which is called Country Cares for St. Jude Kids. The biggest & best country stations in each market hold a Radio-Thon once a year and raise money for St. Jude.... and in January (or Feb., I can't remember) of each year, each station sends like 2 people down to Memphis for this convention to gear up for the Thon.

So when you are in Memphis (that's where the hospital is) you tour the hospital, you meet some of the little patients (soooo heartbreaking, yet so inspiring...it was a very tough day that day!) and then you also have a bunch of country singers/groups down there who are endorsing the hospital and the Thon efforts and they cut station liners for each station. For example, "Hey this is Carrie Underwood. Please call now and Become a Partner in Hope for the St. Jude Radiothon on (name of radio station)." That way each station has personalized ones you can play those during the Thon.

So anyhow, they do that and then they perform some concerts and stuff and it's just a thing that gets country music and the radio stations all geared up to make the Thons the most money they can. But it's a HUGE DEAL!! And the convention lasts like 4 or 5 days....so it's a lot going on... but very fun too.

So, before you go down, they don't tell you which artists will be there... it's kinda part of the excitement to see who are the main people each year. Well, we get down there and find out that Carrie is one of them, which I am thrilled about (at the time) because I loved her! Among others were Rodney Atkins, Josh Turner, Little Big Town, Trent Tomlinson, Hal Ketchum, Trent Willmon, Eric Church, Rhett Akins, Ashley Monroe, Alabama, etc. So other big names and then up and comers, too.

Well, the day they were cutting liners- there are so many stations and so many artists, that you split your station (both people) and split the artists so you can get as many different ones as you can. So the girl I was with was our News Director and she is like, "You definitely have to get Carrie's because I know how much you like her" and then we just kinda split the rest.

So I get to Carrie's booth, and I remain like a radio professional, not like a crazed fan... and I say something like, "Oh Hi Carrie, I'm Jane from the (radio station) morning show... Thanks so much for doing this, blah, blah, blah". She mutters something back, rips the liner sheet out of my hand, and looks up like she has something better to do, and says, "Ready?"

So I get my recorder turned on, and now I'm pissed. So I snap, "Whenever you are". She reads the liners through (not shitty, but not with much emphasis, and it's like you know, you are trying to encourage people to call in and donate money for these dying children...could you maybe pretend to be a little heartfelt?? )

She gets done reading the liners...LOOKS PAST ME up to the next person from a station also from Wisconsin and says, "Next." Are you kidding me???? Next? No, good luck to your station. No, thanks for doing this. No, thanks for playing my music even though I just broke onto the country scene and you don't have to play my songs. No.... I get a Next. Ugh, you little snot. I mean, think about this: you are dealing with people who can just as easily not play your music if they don't want to and then your career goes down the toilet.... so you would think she would have been at least polite.

So maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but I looked at the guy who was coming up next, and said, "Good Luck with that." And I mean, he didn't hear our exchange, so he probably didn't understand what I meant, but I was mad.

So we get done for the day with the liner cutting and everyone else was GREAT, but I am still pretty mad (and more so disappointed that she is such a nasty person and 3 hours ago I wanted to be her best friend) and so I am telling the news director the story over dinner. Well, at our table, sits 2 people from a Minnesota station... and their afternoon drive girl says-- Well check this out, it wasn't just you--
Here she was in the elevator the night before with Carrie in the hotel that we all stayed in (The Peabody...the one with the ducks that march!!...you have got to go there at least once!....so ok...) and so they are riding up and she says to Carrie: "Hey Carrie, yeah, we're playing your new song (which at this time was Don't Forget To...) and I really hope it goes #1 for you...blah, blah, blah" (And mind you now, their station in Minnesota is like BIG MARKET radio) So, the little snot that she is, turns (and again, no thanks for playing it...no thanks for helping to make my 1st song do so well....no...) and says, "It already IS #1" and turns her back to again stare at the elevator buttons. Well, well, well... you little hoity toity beotch!

So yeah, I am not at all a fan. And what's funny is that (probably the only time in my life) I agree with Joan Rivers. She recently came out and said that all the fame has went to Carrie's head waaaay to quickly and that she was a stuck up little brat. CAN I GET AN AHEM ON THAT!

So that's the story....
Everyone else that I've met has been wonderful, but not her.....and it's disappointing."

This reminds me of what I heard about Chris Daughtry. He visted the hospital where I worked and got pissed off that he had to take pictures with the sick children. Those American Idols suck donkey balls.
[info]misspinkkate 2nd-Apr-2007 02:59 pm (UTC)
How horrible. You should be like, you're an American Idol bitch!!!!
[info]risingtofall 2nd-Apr-2007 03:20 pm (UTC)
I read about that, I forget where, but it was saying what a prick he is.
[info]will_2001 2nd-Apr-2007 03:52 pm (UTC)
These idiots don't get that they won a glorified karaoke contest and they act like they're musical gods. That's why I fucking hate that pos show. I hope Sonjaya wins and it ruins the show like a lot of people are saying it would.
[info]nascarxox 2nd-Apr-2007 04:31 pm (UTC)
I read that he was mad because he didn't like the pictures of him he had to sign. I met him in March and he was the biggest sweetheart ever.
[info]queen_norleans 2nd-Apr-2007 04:57 pm (UTC)
That's not an entirely accurate story at all.

He was completely fine with any and all interaction with the kids. He was upset because all the hospital event people talked about was him and American Idol. He wanted acknowledgement for his band as well. The photos they wanted him to sign were of just him on AI. It had absolutely nothing to do with the kids.

I met him and he was without a doubt one of the nicest "celebrities" I've ever met.
[info]buttercup31 2nd-Apr-2007 09:22 pm (UTC)
For the record, for the OC, this is true. At least according to the EW article on him this is true.

However, in my opinion, it still makes him a douche. If he wanted success apart from AI he should have gone about doing it the old fashion way. I'm sick of people too lazy to work up the way most people in the business do and then get pissed that they're still tied to AI.
[info]unbeaten_path 3rd-Apr-2007 04:24 pm (UTC)
I live in Raleigh and Chris does (or did anyway) radio and even stuff pretty frequently. He's an EXCEPTIONALLY nice guy and isn't really the diva type. However, can you really blame him for wanting to distance himself from a "glorified kareoke contest" (as someone so accurately put it) that he was VOTED OFF OF. I mean, would you really want to be constantly associated with something you fucking lost, even if it helped get your foot in the door?

And really, would YOU want to sign and distribute pictures of yourself that you thought were shitty? I sure as fuck wouldn't.. but I'm a vain and shallow creature.

IMO, JHud's tubby ass is the one that needs the attitude adjustment.
[info]beauty_sleeps 2nd-Apr-2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
I'm kind of split on Chris. I was at an event with him last month, and he stated that he was "Over Idol", and steered the conversation away from any talk about AI. (It's true that he is a HUGE talent and we're all glad he's free to do his own thing, but the show DID get him signed and all.) Then we took photos and chatted, and he was nice enough, but seemed distracted and would say "uh huh" and look around the room. But he hugged us and signed extra things for my sick daughter and had his arm around me, so whatever. I think celebs have bad days and good days, but Carrie has definitely ALL BAD from what I've been hearing for a while now.
[info]frenchmoodle 2nd-Apr-2007 08:42 pm (UTC)
I wouldn't be all that surprised though. Look at all the people on American Idol-- they have to have egos to be on that show. Most of them think they're fabulous singers and then Simon chews them out and blows their minds with the reality that they suck.
[info]moody_girl 3rd-Apr-2007 08:56 am (UTC)
I find it ironic that Simon Cowell would be the first to put down that kind of behavior from them. He of all people doesn't seem to treat fans like that.
[info]scientologist 2nd-Apr-2007 02:27 pm (UTC)
I prefer my celebs to be cranky divas. Imagine having to be nice to all the strangers who think they know you all day long- it'd make me crabby too. NEXT!
[info]pallidpanacea 2nd-Apr-2007 02:31 pm (UTC)
Well without all those strangers they'd have no career. So...
[info]kohaku_hime 2nd-Apr-2007 04:18 pm (UTC)
"i say what what" *dances*
[info]twiddledum 2nd-Apr-2007 04:42 pm (UTC)
it's kinda like working in retail...only you get a lot more money for being nice to strangers when you're famous, so bad excuse, lol
[info]rhomea 2nd-Apr-2007 02:27 pm (UTC)
Why is she cold-hearted? Just because she wasn't smiley smiley with your friend? Maybe she was having a bad day. We all have them. Being a fan of someone is not a mutual relationship. You may adore them but they really dont have to give a shit about you.
[info]moore_oaks 2nd-Apr-2007 02:33 pm (UTC)
IAWTC.
[info]pallidpanacea 2nd-Apr-2007 02:33 pm (UTC)
Cold-hearted because she's a bitch apparently. Just because someone might be having a bad day doesn't mean they should take it out on everyone else. Can you imagine if we all did that with out jobs? We wouldn't have one then.
[info]implasticine 2nd-Apr-2007 03:24 pm (UTC)
everone does...
[info]murralicious 2nd-Apr-2007 02:38 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry, but as someone who's worked in the entertainment industry for a while now, if you're a celeb, have your bad mood on your own time. Nothing makes people in this business NOT want to work with you more than a bitchy 'tude. And if you're a musician, copping an attitude with radio people (the people who are responsibile for getting your music to the masses, mind you) is the kiss of death. I've seen PD's drop artists from their playlists so fast after having a bad encounter with an artist.
[info]sonolola 2nd-Apr-2007 03:02 pm (UTC)
"Maybe you don't like your job. Maybe you didn't get enough sleep.
Well, nobody likes their job. Nobody got enough sleep.
Maybe you just had the worst day of your life,
but you know there's no escape and there's no excuse,
so just suck up and be nice."
[info]demented_21 2nd-Apr-2007 03:33 pm (UTC)
It's called being polite. And it has nothing to do with whether you're famous or not or whether you "give a shit" about the person you're being polite to. It's common courtesy.
[info]ilovemeganm 2nd-Apr-2007 04:02 pm (UTC)
are you kidding? having fans DOES give you an unquestioned relationship with them. they do their part by listening, loving you, etc. and you can do your part by 1. making more music and 2. being decent to them when they come up and ask for autographs or give you a simple compliment.

carrie underwood needs a good punch in the face.
[info]ainjel 2nd-Apr-2007 04:13 pm (UTC)
being a recording artist + not being smiley smiley with radio people = UNPROFESSIONAL
[info]witnessthine 2nd-Apr-2007 04:19 pm (UTC)
supposedly she was bitchy the day before with a whole different set of people. I understand having a bad day but her friend (and others that interviewed her) is basically someone she's involved in a business exchange with, she's not just a fan. She was totally unprofessional in that aspect.
[info]wunderaliceland 2nd-Apr-2007 04:44 pm (UTC)
I sorta awtc...

[info]pirate_twin 2nd-Apr-2007 05:38 pm (UTC)
Joan and Melissa said that Carrie was a stuck up, arrogant brat at all the red carpets which they covered where she attended. Joan couldn't say the s-word on tv, but she mimed that Carrie thinks her poop doesn't stink.
[info]michechan 2nd-Apr-2007 07:32 pm (UTC)
I agree with all the other comments, plus this was an event for a good cause! Come on, suck it up for that you dumb bitch. Wah wah, I'm having a bad day, fuck these sick people. Um, yeah, NO.
[info]his_for_life 2nd-Apr-2007 07:41 pm (UTC)
That's no excuse. Meets and Greets is part of her job, and being a celebrity is a 24-7 job. With that in mind, you are supposed to portray yourself in a professional manner, ESPECIALLY at meets and greets and when the press is involved. That means you are supposed to be NICE to your fans, no matter how horrible of a day you're having.

That's just inexcusable.

That's just like working at a bank or professional environment and being cold and rude to the customers.

It doesn't matter how bad your day is going. Your work and personal life are supposed to be separate.
[info]indie_lauper 2nd-Apr-2007 07:55 pm (UTC)
I may not have described her as "cold-hearted," but if you're a professional entertainer it's your job to entertain and maintain a certain image. Especially if it's for a goddamn children's hospital! It doesn't hurt to pretend to be nice once in a while. We all have to do it.
[info]mister_ob 2nd-Apr-2007 09:26 pm (UTC)

[info]valhalley 2nd-Apr-2007 02:28 pm (UTC)
I was gonna go with "maybe she was having a bad day", but it doesn't seem like the case. I can't help feeling disappointed. :(
[info]macaroni1213 3rd-Apr-2007 01:15 am (UTC)
Same. :( I love Carrie.

I can't help but wonder if her success has changed her.

Carrie Underwood hates dying children!!!!!

ha, i was wondering that too :)
[info]shutthefugup 2nd-Apr-2007 02:35 pm (UTC)
What a bitch. I'm boycotting this little snot's music from now on.
[info]coreyann 2nd-Apr-2007 02:35 pm (UTC)
Why is it that most of the Idols end up being divas? Clay anyone??? I've heard some nasty stories about that man.

It's too bad but not surprising in the least.
[info]farfalla_dolce 2nd-Apr-2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
Maybe they think they can since we are voting them where they are.

Any by "we" I mean the people who vote. I never did lol.
[info]esearcher 2nd-Apr-2007 02:55 pm (UTC)
I think it is because they don't have to pay their dues. They go straight from flipping burgers to signing autographs. They've never had to struggle in the business and they've been treated like royalty from the first day.

She always seemed pretty snotty and full of herself throughout AI so why should it be a surprise that she is that way now?
[info]haverchuck_bill 2nd-Apr-2007 03:51 pm (UTC)
iawtc.
[info]muzicnem 2nd-Apr-2007 05:55 pm (UTC)
I agree...and the fact that they haven't had as much time to let fame sink in. They probably don't have people around them telling them how to handle situations or if they do, it's very, "Ok, this is what you do, now GO!" They've basically been shoved out there and quickly (voluntarily, though).
[info]frenchmoodle 2nd-Apr-2007 08:48 pm (UTC)
I agree. Also everyone on American Idol needs somewhat of an ego-- so many of them think they're all that and can't understand it when they're called bad singers even if they sound like dead cats.
[info]browneyedgrl83 2nd-Apr-2007 09:27 pm (UTC)
I won a contest to spend a weekend with Clay... which I really only entered because it was in NYC. I hadn't really paid much attention to him or his music. Anyway, we went to several events with him and he was perfectly nice! He kept asking if we needed anything, actually brought us drinks at one place. This was even after he'd been famous for a bit.

Point being, Clay was nice.
[info]liprincess 2nd-Apr-2007 04:44 pm (UTC)
Spill your Clay stories, plz (if you want to). I haven't heard bad stuff about him, so I'm a bit surprised.
[info]feel_liberated 2nd-Apr-2007 04:45 pm (UTC)
Oh, I totally met him. He was nice to a certain extent, but it was like he was bothered by the people who PUT HIM THE POSITION HE'S IN.
[info]iwanabspaghetti 2nd-Apr-2007 10:17 pm (UTC)
I don't think I've ever heard stuff like that about Fantasia, actually. And people hate her for so many reasons, you'd think if she was a flaming bitch, they'd be all over that.

And I can understand Clay being a diva - between his crazy fans and being a human punchline, he's probably lost his wee mind by this point.
[info]macaroni1213 3rd-Apr-2007 01:22 am (UTC)
Maybe the former Clay fan in me is giving me my bias, but I followed Clay's career verrrry closely, and all those terrible stories about him were 90% BS. For example, there was one story that broke about the foundation he started using the donations for illegal purposes, but it turns out that was the result of a sketchy financial manager I believe, and I'm pretty sure he fired her ass or something to that nature right afterwards. The things he's done for unprivileged and austistic children far far far outweigh any diva-like behavior he's had.

WOW you did not need that lecture, I apologize.
[info]zyzzybalubah 2nd-Apr-2007 02:36 pm (UTC)
OH MY GOD! She didn't kiss up to a bunch of annoying, bottom feeding DJ's. I hardly think that makes her a cold hearted bitch. She's just a typical celeb.

Still, I hate when celebs go to places like children's hospitals and use the kids as props to promote themselves.

[info]pallidpanacea 2nd-Apr-2007 02:44 pm (UTC)
I don't think kissing up is what anyone is asking for or expecting. But how about being a decent human being? Especially when you're singing songs about Jesus? Oh, and let's not forget that you're at a benefit for sick kids.
[info]forbiddenstorm 2nd-Apr-2007 02:57 pm (UTC)
Ah, that's a great way to put. I'm sorry she was like that to your friend. I hope she feels better soon!
[info]sweetserene 2nd-Apr-2007 03:01 pm (UTC)
I honestly do not think that one incident is enough evidence to support whether someone is being a 'decent human being' or not. She may not have been as nice to your friend as she had wished but Carrie is only human.

I wonder if your friend is perfect and nice and grateful to people 100% of the time. And I don't think not being a celebrity is a good excuse.
[info]zyzzybalubah 2nd-Apr-2007 03:28 pm (UTC)
I agree with you but c'mon all these celebs are a bunch of phonies. Like they really care about anything other than their own fame & fortune.
[info]frenchmoodle 2nd-Apr-2007 08:49 pm (UTC)
Yeah all she had to do was smile and say "Hi, how are you?" Nobody likes people who constantly think about themselves.
[info]heart_of_butter 2nd-Apr-2007 04:44 pm (UTC)
"Bottom-feeding DJs"? What gives you the inclination to be so fucking elitist?
