Lindsay's speedy recovery

Liar, liar, pants on fire. That would be Lindsay Lohan. The actress who was supposed to have had surgery to remove her appendix, miraculously walked out of the hospital a day later. Yes, walked. Not being pushed out in a wheelchair. Rumors of another OD on drugs and alcohol have been swirling around this week and guess they were true. No AA, Lindsay gulps down vodka through water bottles these days. TMZ has a clip of Lindsay being caught while trying to sneak out.

Appendicitis is usually treated with day surgery, I think they are trying to make something out of nothing this time.
[info]__xdrublic 6th-Jan-2007 12:25 pm (UTC)
I was in the hospital three days after I had mine removed, you don't just walk out the day after.
[info]waltzindarkness 6th-Jan-2007 01:09 pm (UTC)
Yeah when I had mine out I couldn't even get out of bed the next day!
[info]teenykristini 6th-Jan-2007 03:29 pm (UTC)
your icon... wow... frank has never looked good to me until now.
[info]kangofu 6th-Jan-2007 03:54 pm (UTC)
Not necessarily . I had a lap appendectomy, I was out of bed the same day & home the next.
[info]oxmyx 6th-Jan-2007 04:46 pm (UTC)
I deal with hospitals all the time in the USA (that's my job) and other than in rare circumstances where there is an infect illieum, the patients are out within the next day.

I am weighing the majority here, and I am sure if you called most hospitals, they would advise you the same thing. If Lilo had a laproscopic appendectomy, there is like a 75% (or maybe more) chance she would be out the next day. This is also especially true for young peoplr who are able to recover quicker.

when had my appendix out they removed it through my belly button so there was little to no scarring and i had to be put in a wheel chair to leave the hospital "as a saftey procaution" but i waslked to the car and returned to work/school the next day.
[info]flapi 6th-Jan-2007 12:26 pm (UTC)
My boyfriend had his appendix removed in an urgency (because he didn't go to the hospital when it started to hurt) and was at home missing school for 1 month... most time laying on the bed, resting, etc. He was at the hospital for one week too. I'm not sure if this varies from case to case, but I think most people don't walk out normally the day after!
[info]remember_today 6th-Jan-2007 03:19 pm (UTC)
I was in the hospital for a week!
[info]ohdangitsmegan 6th-Jan-2007 04:52 pm (UTC)
i had my appendix taken out and i was in the hospital for three days. i was pushed out in a wheelchair, and i wasn't alowwed out of bed for two weeks. but you never know what her circumstances were.
[info]psi 6th-Jan-2007 12:28 pm (UTC)
Her car has no front plate. BREAKIN' THE LAW!
[info]jiai1 6th-Jan-2007 03:25 pm (UTC)
That's not the law in every state ;) It also depends on the car in some like CA. Strange but true.
[info]denara 6th-Jan-2007 04:52 pm (UTC)
What kinds of cars? I couldn't find mention of any exceptions on the DMV site, though I'll admit to not looking too long. Relevant parts of the Vehicle Code:
11713.17 - Front License Plate Bracket
5200 - Display of License Plates

So for at least passenger cars, they send you two plates, and if they do, you're required to display both. Even if the car doesn't have a bracket mounted when you buy it, it'll come with one you're required to install.

I've seen a police officer making his way through a parking lot in Mission Beach writing tickets for every car without the front plates. We asked him, and he confirmed that it was illegal. Whatever exception there might be, it sure didn't apply to any of those people's cars/trucks/suvs. =)

My brother just had surgery and had his appendix removed. He was out in a day. It depends on whether you have it by laparoscopy or if you have to have an incision. It also depends on the health of the patient. So no, it's not something strange if someone has their appendix removed and they're not incapacitated for a week.

Not saying this is the case for La Lohan. I think she had a different problem.
[info]goudagirl 6th-Jan-2007 12:32 pm (UTC)
LOL. great minds =)
[info]sourgurl163 6th-Jan-2007 01:33 pm (UTC)
i love your icon!
[info]mandy0x 6th-Jan-2007 02:10 pm (UTC)
I had mine removed laparoscopically. I was in the hospital more than a week and when I did get out, I was walking hunched over.
[info]l_o_v_e 6th-Jan-2007 04:55 pm (UTC)
I was out in a day, too, but I was not very mobile. I couldn't even stand up straight.
[info]goudagirl 6th-Jan-2007 12:32 pm (UTC)
I think it depends on whether they do it laproscopically or if they do full-on surgery. laproscopic surgery takes only a few hours and you can leave the following day. I had it with my gall bladder.

but I don't like Lohan, so, yeah, she's probably full of shit =)
[info]titania 6th-Jan-2007 01:01 pm (UTC)
exactly, i had my gallbladder removed two weeks ago and i got to go home the same day. mind you in a wheelchair, but with laproscopic surgery it's definetly possible if you're otherwise healthy.
[info]0405 6th-Jan-2007 03:34 pm (UTC)
You didn't "get" to go home the same day. Most hospitals practically kick you out after having your gallbladder surgery, after your anethesia wears off. Hospitals want you out!
[info]0405 6th-Jan-2007 03:35 pm (UTC)
Let alone most surgeries these days!
[info]epicet 6th-Jan-2007 01:36 pm (UTC)
Agreed. And <333 laproscopy! It still sucked, but close to no scars is amazing.
[info]loveanddarkness 6th-Jan-2007 03:29 pm (UTC)
Same here for laproscopic gall bladder removal.

Walking the next day made me nauseous but I could do it.
[info]random_vapid 6th-Jan-2007 08:42 pm (UTC)
I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically as well. I could leave the next day, but there was no way I was walking around normal like she is.
[info]hxcfairy 6th-Jan-2007 12:33 pm (UTC)
LOL busted!
[info]clubland 6th-Jan-2007 12:55 pm (UTC)
wow.. that video proved a whole lot!
[info]annainnycalps 7th-Jan-2007 03:43 am (UTC)
LOL, i love your icon.
[info]crazyfruitlady 6th-Jan-2007 12:56 pm (UTC)
This is a non story. I had appendicitis, went to hospital, blah blah blah, was walking aroundwith a smile the next day.
[info]ncsujen 6th-Jan-2007 04:40 pm (UTC)
Unless you have a cesarean, most women don't stay in the hospital more than 48 hours after birthing. :)
[info]mattel_recall 6th-Jan-2007 01:09 pm (UTC)
She's so delightfully trashy.
[info]kittenrescue 6th-Jan-2007 01:13 pm (UTC)
My son had an appendectomy a year ago and was in the hospital for a week and out of commission for six weeks.
[info]resin 6th-Jan-2007 07:07 pm (UTC)
i was like that too when i was a kid. in the hospital a week and had stitches for a while after and then had to take it easy.
[info]kittenrescue 6th-Jan-2007 07:15 pm (UTC)
Well, my *kid* is 24. :)
[info]gatormade 6th-Jan-2007 01:19 pm (UTC)
It happens. I am a nurse and I discharged a kid home last night about 20 hours after his appendectomy.
[info]so_typically_me 6th-Jan-2007 04:20 pm (UTC)
tell em, girly. ONTD knows nothing about medicine...they only THINK they do
[info]sammysmasher 6th-Jan-2007 04:31 pm (UTC)
Hi gatormade. I'm new to this community, but, I saw your avatar, and had to ask...Is that the guy from Goonie's? LOL Looking forward to "hangin' out" here.
[info]gatormade 6th-Jan-2007 08:00 pm (UTC)
Hi! Yes, it is indeed Sloth from the Goonies! isn't he hot?? ;)
[info]kristen853 6th-Jan-2007 01:19 pm (UTC)
Yeah- I'm a post-op nurse and this is totally possible. If she had a lap appendectomy, she would have 2 1-inch incisions. Sometimes people don't even have to stay overnight anymore. All of these stories people are telling about severe pain and week long hospital stays are either due to a ruptured appendix which caused an infection or sepsis, or an open incision. If your surgery is done lap, you get Tylenol the next day and sent on your merry way.
[info]mandy0x 6th-Jan-2007 02:12 pm (UTC)
All of these stories people are telling about severe pain and week long hospital stays are either due to a ruptured appendix which caused an infection or sepsis, or an open incision.

Guess what? I had neither of these and was still in the hospital for a week.
[info]crazyfruitlady 6th-Jan-2007 03:22 pm (UTC)
Guess what? People are different.
[info]kristen853 7th-Jan-2007 01:27 pm (UTC)
OK, well, if you had no post-op complications, then you either have the most forgiving insurance company ever, or your doctor is the most cautious person in history.

I'm not being arrogant by saying that you don't stay long in the hospital. I'm saying that as a nurse who takes care of these patients *every single day*, in my experience, you go home the next day if it's lap without complications.

And yeah, people are different. But appendixes- not s'much. It's painfully routine.
[info]ghost_explosion 6th-Jan-2007 04:24 pm (UTC)
or they had their surgery in 1955 or something...
[info]lillyrayne 6th-Jan-2007 11:00 pm (UTC)
I got hydrocordone! (such a nice vacation) but I went on may way about 16 hours later.
[info]mattel_recall 6th-Jan-2007 01:24 pm (UTC)
The white girl at the end of THIS video is hilarious (and annoying as hell).

are you talking about that fight between a bodyguard and a pap then lol that was hilarious
[info]mattel_recall 6th-Jan-2007 04:03 pm (UTC)
Yes, that's the clip. I loved it.
[info]deletexradio 6th-Jan-2007 01:30 pm (UTC)
I can't help but feel sorry for her; it must suck to have some much media scrutiny surrounding you that you have to fabricate illness to get treatment for addictions.
Poor girl.
[info]nakedyouth 6th-Jan-2007 01:38 pm (UTC)
not to defend her or anything, but as far a si know, laparoscopic appendectomies are pretty low-key and often, you're good to walk out the same day.
