Celebs Give Their Top Picks of 2006

MOVIES

Clay Aiken: The Queen – "Helen Mirren looks just like Queen Elizabeth. Acted like her! I thought it was very good." howfitting, lol

TV SHOWS

Ashlee Simpson: Desperate Housewives – "It's one of those shows like Sex and the City – every girl likes it."

Monique Coleman: Grey's Anatomy – "Even though there's huge issues, at the end of the day we're still concerned about the characters – that's good TV."

Macy Gray: Nip/Tuck – "It's over-the-top- drama. It's crazy. I don't know who thinks of that stuff."

John Stamos: South Park – "The show is so timely. If something happens, in like two weeks it's parodied on there."

Nicky Hilton: The Girls Next Door – "I just think they're so funny."

MOVIES

Josh Groban: The Prestige – "Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are awesome. And I've loved magic since I was a kid. That it's a murder mystery with twists based on magic makes it amazing."

Jaime Pressly: The Departed – "It was amazing. It's a brilliant film. Everyone in it was great."

Anjelica Huston: Borat – "I don't know if it's the best movie, but it's the funniest. I have never laughed so hard in a movie. I've never laughed so hard, period.?

Mike Myers: The Fountain – "It's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it. All the performances were great. It was transformative."

Clay Aiken: The Queen – "Helen Mirren looks just like Queen Elizabeth. Acted like her! I thought it was very good."

MUSIC

Anne Hathaway: Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins, Rabbit Fur Coat – "You can just listen to it start to finish and it tells a story. It's beautiful, funny and very subversive. I really love it."

Chris Cornell: Bob Dylan, Modern Times – "I think it's fantastic. There's a lightness to it that doesn't normally come from him. When I say lightness, like a happiness."

Zach Braff: Joshua Radin, We Were Here – "It's just the greatest music. He's a really talented guy. He's like the new Paul Simon."

Katharine McPhee: Christina Aguilera, Back to Basics – "I really like her record. I think she brought some cool old-school stuff to it, and amazing vocals."

BOOKS

Terrence Howard: Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho –"It teaches you to enjoy each moment."

Ben Affleck: Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond – "I'm reading a lot of nonfiction. . . .This is really good right now."

Jennifer Connelly: In the Land of Magic Soldiers by Daniel Bergner – "That was the last one I read – it was actually about Sierra Leone, where Blood Diamond takes place. It was really fantastic."

Queen Latifah: The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith – "I love it. It's a whole series."

Patricia Heaton: The Tiny One by Eliza Minot – "It's about a girl who loses her mother, and she chronicles the whole day before she finds out her mother died. She's exactly the age I was when my mother died. I'd read a few pages and then start sobbing."

ahahah, oh clay.
[info]whenyoureajet 23rd-Dec-2006 04:18 pm (UTC)
Well I for one hate Desperate Housewives.
So Ashlee can suck it.
[info]__________ghost 23rd-Dec-2006 04:19 pm (UTC)
ya she's an idiot.
[info]poisonavery 23rd-Dec-2006 04:39 pm (UTC)
i agree, both SATC and DH are the sort of show where I watch like, half an episode and be like, "okay, when comes the part where I actually start liking it?"
[info]vienna_sausages 23rd-Dec-2006 04:46 pm (UTC)
agreed.
[info]_____chiller 23rd-Dec-2006 04:49 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I don't like it either.
[info]fortunatefool__ 23rd-Dec-2006 05:05 pm (UTC)
agreed. hate DH and didn't get the whole SATC thing either.
[info]numb_crystal 23rd-Dec-2006 05:05 pm (UTC)
ugh seriously
[info]mad_turtle 23rd-Dec-2006 05:23 pm (UTC)
Loved SATC (had to watch it more than once to like it) and don't like DH...at all.
[info]layla 23rd-Dec-2006 05:29 pm (UTC)
Word. Way to make me not feel like a girl, Ashlee.
[info]moon__river 23rd-Dec-2006 05:34 pm (UTC)

[info]hula_lullaby 23rd-Dec-2006 07:11 pm (UTC)
Agreed!
[info]mairzydotes 23rd-Dec-2006 07:11 pm (UTC)
Me, too. I hate how women are like "Oh which SATC character am I? Who are my friends? Wow we're just like them, it's crazy." when they're a bunch of fat, ugly suburban housewives.
[info]hawaii_bombay 23rd-Dec-2006 08:23 pm (UTC)
The only way I could start watching that show again is if Andrew and Justin kiss/have sex.
[info]allmylines 23rd-Dec-2006 09:36 pm (UTC)
Same here.

Love SATC though.
[info]dixie_chicken 23rd-Dec-2006 10:09 pm (UTC)
I actually mildly enjoyed SATC, the few times I saw it, though I didn't watch it regularly.

DH bores the hell out of me. Granted I hate Eva Longoria's soul with the fire of a thousand suns for reasons completely unrelated to the show... but I don't like the show either.
[info]chana 23rd-Dec-2006 10:44 pm (UTC)
love satc, hate dh

[info]malloryrenee 24th-Dec-2006 12:07 am (UTC)
yes. She is the last person to speak for all girls.
[info]reddressorblue 24th-Dec-2006 04:42 am (UTC)
me, too. the only thing it has going for it are the sondheim references in the episode titles, but otherwise, it's balls.
[info]riotcalifornia 24th-Dec-2006 06:08 am (UTC)
yar, i agree. I never watched SATC, either.
[info]jennaa 24th-Dec-2006 02:47 pm (UTC)

[info]famousdeaths 23rd-Dec-2006 04:30 pm (UTC)
I really need to put my hands on that Dylan album.

And ugh at Paulo Coelho. Self-help books posing as fiction.
[info]onagoldenchain 23rd-Dec-2006 05:58 pm (UTC)
i had to read the alchemist in school and wanted to throw the book at my teacher. she was way too into it.

Ben Affleck: Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond – "I'm reading a lot of nonfiction. . . .This is really good right now."

i killed a spider with guns, germs, and steel a few nights ago.
[info]hawaii_bombay 23rd-Dec-2006 04:33 pm (UTC)
I just squash spiders (and other bugs) with my shoe :P
[info]freeko 23rd-Dec-2006 04:31 pm (UTC)
Anne Hathaway has great taste in music. I still cant believe the same actress that was in the Princess Diaries was now in Brokeback Mountain. But I am glad she outgrew that typecast.

I love Borat too. Anjelica Huston knows good films when she sees them.
[info]hawaii_bombay 23rd-Dec-2006 04:31 pm (UTC)
LOL @ Clay.
BTW, I found this in a message board, stating that it's Clay:
[info]hawaii_bombay 23rd-Dec-2006 04:34 pm (UTC)
Yes; Stefan :)
[info]on6th 23rd-Dec-2006 04:42 pm (UTC)
lol, it is him. his mom who seems to hate the idea of him being gay shared that with the world, for some reason.
[info]vienna_sausages 23rd-Dec-2006 04:47 pm (UTC)
lolololol
[info]m0nkey_will 23rd-Dec-2006 04:50 pm (UTC)

[info]crazy_clockwork 23rd-Dec-2006 05:41 pm (UTC)
It totally is him, being Cher?

I want sound. :(

[info]mairzydotes 23rd-Dec-2006 07:13 pm (UTC)
He's prettier than Cher.
[info]cadaver_andante 23rd-Dec-2006 07:48 pm (UTC)
I am hoping, for his sake, it is not him.
[info]cadaver_andante 23rd-Dec-2006 07:54 pm (UTC)
I am obsessed with this gif now.
[info]dixie_chicken 23rd-Dec-2006 10:06 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's him, but dude, he was in a high school choir. EVERYBODY has to do drag.

Joey Fatone (the straightest male pop star in history) was also, incidentally, Cher in his high school choir.
